World Wide Entertainment (WWE) champion wrestler Great Khali has beaten many a champion - but that has not deterred an 18-year-old here who Thursday challenged him to a fight with a Rs.500,000 bet. Jagmeet Singh, a first-year student of the DAV College here, said if Khali was indeed a great wrestler, he should accept the challenge and fight against him in Greco-Roman or free-style wrestling. ‘If he wins, I will give him Rs.500,000 as reward,’ Jagmeet said. The 6-foot 10-inch tall wrestler from a village in Punjab said he was not afraid of the Khali, who measures 7 feet 3 inches tall. If he is such a strong wrestler, he should qualify for the Beijing Olympics and get a gold medal for India,’ Jagmeet said.

Earlier, famous wrestler Palwinder Singh Cheema had also challenged Khali, whose original name is Dalip Singh Rana and who is an on-leave assistant sub-inspector of the Punjab police. Khali, based in the US in recent years, is visiting India and is India on a holiday and to give his joining report to the Punjab police at Jalandhar where he is posted. He has been on medical leave for nearly three years from the police force. He entered the WWE arena in 2005 and became a big name in that circuit. He even defeated The Undertaker, a much feared wrestler, in a WWE fight. Though Khali, who hails from a village in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmour district, was unknown when he left India for the US, he has come back to the country amidst great fanfare. Several celebrities and hundreds of fans have been trying to meet him since his arrival last week.
